Gracie Jiu Jitsu Certified Training Center has arrived in Fort Dodge!
Justin Faiferlick owner of Faiferlick Martial Arts has finished up his instructor program with Gracie Jiu Jitsu. He has also been authorized the designation of a Certified Training Center for Gracie Jiu Jitsu. For the first time ever, students are learning Gracie Jiu-Jitsu with the same reliable structure and meticulous planning that one would expect from an institution of higher education. With a clearly defined curriculum and standardized qualification requirements for each belt level, students are embarking on the path towards Gracie Jiu-Jitsu mastery with more dedication and greater enthusiasm than ever before.
For the Gracie family, nothing was more important than making sure that the learning experience at all Certified Training Centers mirrored that of the Gracie University Headquarters in Torrance, CA. Through this rigorous and highly-comprehensive program, prospective instructors are introduced to the teaching methodologies and training programs that have been developed and refined for three generations. Upon his successful completion of the Instructor Certification Program (ICP), Justin is authorized to teach Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in accordance with the high standards established by Grand Master Helio Gracie and maintained by Gracie University. Through the ICP, Gracie Jiu Jitsu is finally able to systematically create high-quality instructors without compromising the integrity of the art. Faiferlick Martial Arts has now made Gracie Jiu-Jitsu available in our community with the proven system and the full support of Gracie University Headquarters. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu first and foremost as a system of self-defense.
As a certified instructor, Justin is an extension of the Gracie Family and a representative of Gracie University. He personifies discipline, integrity, and honor and is healthy in mind and body, and, most importantly, has a passion for empowering others. Faiferlick Martial Arts is adding four programs through Gracie University with the Combatives self defense program for adults, a JR Combatives Program for ages 8-12 and a Little Champs Program for ages 5-7.
Gracie Combatives is our beginner program for adults. In this program, you will learn the 36 core techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (also known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ) in a fun, safe, and cooperative environment. Each one-hour lesson addresses one standing and one ground self-defense technique, which are further broken down into simplified drills or “slices” to facilitate the learning process. You can start the program at any time and participate in any class without previous experience and, since safety is our number one concern, there is no competitive sparring in this program. Upon successful completion of the Gracie Combatives program you will earn your Gracie Combatives Belt which will qualify you for advancement into the Master Cycle program.
The Gracie Bullyproof program is one of the only youth jiu-jitsu programs that separates kids by age AND experience level, so that every child gets the perfect balance of fun and challenge in their weekly classes. All kids begin in super-playful entry level programs for their age group, and as soon as a child reaches a certain level of maturity, they are promoted to the next training program. The teaching methodologies used in the Gracie Bullyproof program are unlike anything else in BJJ. Not only are all the entry-level techniques presented in the form of “jiu-jitsu” games so that kids are highly enthused about learning them, but we use “push teaching” rather than “pull teaching.” When a child makes a mistake, we don’t focus on the error, instead, we emphasize the correctly executed aspects of the move. Through this carefully layered positive reinforcement, we help the kids reach their full potential without jeopardizing their love for the art.
Little Champs (5-7 Years Old): The Little Champs program is for kids 5-7 years old (we offer private lessons for children ages 3-4). Using our time-tested “Gracie Games,” we teach the Little Champs basic self-defense techniques while instilling the foundational principles of leverage and control. The secret to the success of this program is that we make the lessons so fun that the kids beg for more! Once a child masters all ten Gracie Games, they advance to the Jr. Grapplers program.
Jr. Grapplers (8-12 Years Old): In the Jr. Grapplers program, we focus on 33 non-violent self-defense techniques that teach children to “neutralize and negotiate” with the bullies. Verbal assertiveness strategies are a major portion of this curriculum. A child needs absolutely no experience to start, and we guarantee a noticeable increase in your child’s confidence within a few weeks!
Black Belt Club (Invitation Only) We invite children who excel in the Jr. Grapplers program to join the Black Belt Club. This is our most advanced youth jiu-jitsu program and joining the Black Belt Club is the highest honor for any youth Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. Kids in this program possess all the traits necessary for success on the path to black belt: discipline, respect, courage, leadership, loyalty, and compassion.
We have found that our instructors develop powerful bonds with every student on the mat, but especially with our youth practitioners. We leverage this connection to help you develop your child’s character for success in all aspects of life. The Gracie Character Development Program consists of six chapters: Responsibility, Health, Respect, Citizenship, Manners, and Caring. We spend two months on each chapter. In every class, we discuss the featured character trait for 5-15 minutes, emphasizing the simple things your child can do to make it a part of their life. The secret to success lies in our use of a unique point-based reward system that we tie to attendance at Gracie Game Day, a special two-hour party where they get to play tons of games with all the instructors and kids. Only kids who score enough points during the two-month chapter qualify to attend Gracie Game Day, so it’s a powerful incentive for kids and a useful tool for parents to encourage positive behavior at home and school. Gracie Game Day is so much fun that parents will often put on a uniform just so they can join the party!
